Philosophical Fight Log: Day 4- D.I.Y. (Do-It-Yourself) Fitness
So friends over the years have often asked me tips about fitness and training. To change things up a bit today, here’s a peak at how to make one of the greatest pieces of fitness equipment ever invented…The Bulgarian Training Bag.
I will be using this a lot for my supplementary cardio between now and the fight.
Aside from a pull-up bar and a suspension trainer, the Bulgarian Training Bag is one most useful, all-round fitness tools I’ve ever come across.
It should be a staple in any home gym.
A premium-design one on Amazon officially runs for $310.
Here’s what you’ll need to make one for about $35.
1.) Tractor Tire Inner Tube ($32/2 = $16 per)
2.) 30-40 lbs of sand ($5.27)
3.) 2 Zip-ties (100-pack @$7.99 = $00.15)
4.) Duct Tape (approximately $1.00 worth)
5.) 8-ft, 3/4 in Nylon Rope, optional for handles ($1.75 x8 = $14)
Total Cost: $36.42
Here’s a link explaining how to build it.
Twenty minutes later, depending on your sand-shoveling and duct-taping speed, you will end up with this.
.Tying off the second hand loop at the end made mine a bit lopsided on the grips as you can see here, but my aim here is function not aesthetics and the functionality of it works fine for me.
Once you’ve got your D.I.Y. Bulgarian Training Bag built, here are some functional exercises you can begin to play around with.
Obviously these are just a few options. For a full set of options and workouts you can check out the guys over at Suples who are the masters at these kind of killer workouts.
What’s great about the Bulgarian Training Bag is that you can adjust and taper your workouts to be more like a weight-lifting workout, a ballistic workout, or grinding calisthenic-type cardio workout.
Now go grab some sand and a tire tube and give it a try!
